The Dominican Outreach Team: Our journey is not over it has just begun...

The Dominican Outreach team returned home this week filled with stories of love, hope and change.

So many of us commented on how strange it was not see one another the day after our return to the US. I guess we were suffering from a little separation anxiety. I know how much we will miss the amazing interaction with the children, teachers and staff at the schools in the DR. And the feelings we have for each other come from the changes in our relationships on this journey. Our team went from church acquaintances to becoming friends to leaving as family members by mission's end.

Each of us has so many stories in our hearts and minds that will reside with us for a lifetime. Sometimes it is hard to explain the feelings in words for our experience there. I just know it changed many of our outlooks on life and our place in the world around us. No doubt this was our gift from God.

We returned home to the open arms of Rev. Candance at Reagan National Airport late Wednesday evening. I think seeing and embracing her made our trip complete. It brought us some closure that we finished what we hope will not be our last mission trip to the Dominican Republic together.

PLEASE CONTINUE TO CHECK OUT THE BLOG FOR MORE STORIES FROM THE DR. THERE IS STILL SO MUCH TO TELL.

P.S. It's funny, I expect to hear those dang roosters crowing in the morning now, anybody else?

What a handsome bunch of folks...those roosters were a great cheering section in the mornings...and at various times of the day...they were fearless...of humans, or dogs...missed it all when I woke up Thursday morning...

See y'all soon...

How wonderful to see the whole mission team all together! Great picture, Tommie. And what a blessing to get to know each and every person in this shot, and to now know them as individuals and not just as a familiar face at Sunday services. Combined with the beautiful children and the delightful locals, and then leaving with such an overwhelming sense of accomplishment. . . God had a plan, and we were the tools and instruments, and the plan happened. What else is there to say but WOW !

Let's do it all over again, and again, and again!

hey team,

just getting in the door after a couple of extra days visiting friends in santo domingo. two happy cats, a big comforatable bed, and a clean house thanks to habib. hard to believe i have been gone since july 1st. if my in box at work looks anything like my mail box at home, i got a long week ahead!

but it's all good. whenever i feel the pressure from work, i can close my eyes and just think of our group and the kids and the joy will return.

there were tears, as always, as i left the airport this morning. but this time i was ready to get home and see all of you!

big flu bug going around in the DR, so if you are feeling alittle blue, take care of yourself and check-in with your doctor too.

glad to be home, hope to see you all in the place!
